Found treasure: a supportive shoe with a roomy toe box
I have been trying really hard to make minimal footwear work for me. I’m recovering from knee surgery and I need a more supportive shoe. I’m so glad to have found this model of the Topo. I appreciate the roomy toe box and the support to help with my foot pronation. This shoe is everything I needed. Can’t live without my roomy toe box now!!! They are cute too! Got mine in purple.
Comfortable Long Run shoe
This is a great shoe for entering into the world of "minimal" footwear. It's light (but not by Topo standards) yet still has a good amount of cushioning and support. The 5mm drop is flatter than most other brands, but not so much as to shock your feet if you're new to more neutral shoes.
It's my shoe of choice for longer run efforts. I'm on my second pair and the first pair performed admirably through 500+ miles, so it's durable.
My only complaint is that the sizing is a bit different from the other Topo models- it runs smaller than the Fly Lite 2 and Terraventure, making it necessary to size up 1/2 size - which makes it SLIGHTLY big on me. Hopefully the Ultrafly 2 will remedy this issue when it comes out.
I am a Topo Ambassador.
I love these shoes and own two pairs! But the mesh on the shoe rips out easy and my second pair is the same size shoe, but is much bigger. You can see the difference in size when putting them side by side. I would still buy another pair though.
*Topo note: we updated the last that the Ultrafly was built on in May 2017 in order to make it more consistent with industry sizing. Any older pairs would fit about 1/2 size smaller as a result. We will be launching an update to the Ultrafly in May of 2018 which will feature a redesigned abrasion-resistant mesh upper.*
My favorite model

This is by far my favorite and most utilized Topo model. I primarily do most of my miles on the road or harder packed surfaces (dirt roads and track) and the Ultraflys provide the perfect amount of cushion and support. I use these for when I'm going out for longer or easier runs when my feet need the most cushion.
The 5mm drop is just enough that it's not too minimal, but still allows for a natural foot strike. The toe box is roomy enough, and the midfoot/heel grip tight enough around the foot to prevent slipping. I'm rotating through my 2nd and 3rd pair of them right now, and I retired the first pair at around 350 miles. For such a popular shoe, I wish there were more color options. I love the bright color schemes that are available for other models, so hopefully in the future that will be possible!
10/10 would recommend to anyone out there who is just starting out with minimal shoes, or if you're looking for some great road shoes to pile the miles on!
I'm a Topo Ambassador!
I am not a super cushion lover with shoes; so when I first put these on I laughed. It felt like I was walking on pillows compared to my normal shoe (Fli-Lyte 2)!
Where the Ultrafly excels for me: TREADMILL RUNNING!
It's so easy to lose proper form on the hamster wheel, and the drop on this shoe forces your foot into roll off the front balls of the feet beautifully! My feet are SO happy and it feels like they can run forever in these.
I have only taken them out on the road a couple times, mostly because I want to keep them clean for the indoor runs. I have well over a thousand treadmill miles on my Ultrafly's now, and they still feel as bouncy and pillow-y as ever.
As a Topo Ambassador, I know not ALL shoes are for everyone; but this will always be my staple indoor runner.
