I love love LOVE these shoes! Going zero drop has helped my sciatic nerve pain significantly and has helped me find a more natural gait on hikes. The roomy toe box allows my foot to flex naturally and my toes to spread. I love being able to feel the ground beneath my feet and the rock plate hasn't let me down yet. My size 9-wide feet fit well in the size 9 and don't feel cramped. I don't feel like I need to go up a half size like I have with most brands. There was a little heel slip at first, but alternate lacing techniques fixed this issue. The tread on these babies will stick to anything, including slippery snow pack. My traction devices all fit well over the shoe with minimal shoe squishing. These shoes dry very quickly, even when fully saturated. After a little over a month of heavy use, the shoes show minimal wear. They are very easy to clean. My only complaint is that they are not gaiter compatible, but I knew that before purchasing. I'll be recommending this brand to all of my hiking friends and family. Thank you, Topo!
Bought these shoes with some other topos (the Magnifly3, wrote a review for those too, if you're interested) and LOVE LOVE LOVE them for trail running. I've always trail run in minimalist shoes on soft western trails but a recent move to the East Coast left my feet bruised and battered on sharp rocks, roots, and packed rocky soil. These bad girls have been a great alternative to my normal wimpy trail shoes. The rock plate works wonders and they are padded without making you feel like you're going to roll your ankle until it snaps. The tread is super grippy, even on slick rocks covered in wet leaves. The toe box is super roomy but the shoe ties down just right so you don't feel like you're sliding around. My new go-to trail shoe.
I love the Runventure 3 and use them for chunky trail and mixed surface runs (gravel and pavement). They have great grip and the heel counter provides solid lateral support for technical terrain. They move with my foot perfectly, don't alter my gait, and have just the right amount of responsiveness without being mushy or clumsy. I wear a women's 10.5, but since these aren't available in that size, I had to go with a Men's 9. (Please make these in 10.5!) I have a wide forefoot, narrow heel and low instep/volume. Although the men's version is wider than the women's, I lace-lock them and am able to get an excellent fit in the heel and midfoot with plenty of room to splay. I tried the Mtn. Racer first, but just couldn't get along with the more narrow forefoot and bigger drop of that shoe. For me, 0-drop is always best, and once I took these Runventure spidey shoes out in the woods, I was stoked to have found just what I was looking for!
I was a true and through Altra fan but these shoes stole my heart. Love the wide toe box, zero drop and vibram oh so grippy sole! They needed about 20 mi to break in but they feel so good now. Sturdy and lightweight. Feel true to size for running shoes.
Disappointingly, the Runventure did not work did me. I was hoping this shoe would replace my Superior 4, as it would be a bit firmer. I love minimalist shoes. The shoe ran big and I had to order a 1/2 size down. My original size was too long, the mid foot felt loose, and the heel slipped. Although the next size down fit in length, it proved a little narrow in the mid foot and I could feel the side of the shoe. Also, my big toes hit the uppers the whole time, so I would either lose a toenail or break through the upper. I felt the foot protection was fine of moderate trail and have no complaints. I loved the weight of the shoe. Before ordering a size I would talk to a customer service rep. I wear a 9 1/2 in the Magnifly 3 (my normal size), a 10 in the MT-3, and needed a 9 in the Runventure. Topo customer service is excellent!! ( My personal taste: I think Topo could do better with their color palettes for women shoes. )
I really don't like the plastic feeling of the upper material. When I walked around, the bend on the upper material makes a loud noise and I can feel the material bending and pushing in to my foot as it folds along a single line. That was a deal breaker for me. Plus, I was surprised that it was too large. I bought the same size that I have in my Ultraventures, but these were way too big. I returned.
