Some good features but raised rubber adjacent to forefoot material is a problem
I was soo excited when a friend told me about this shoe. Like me, she has a wide forefoot and finding a comfortable run shoe for long distances isn’t easy. I have bunions on both feet, slightly more so on the left foot. Shoes that have material overlays where the bunion is located often cause blisters as do shoes that have rubber that raises up where the upper materials are attached to the shoe. I wore these around the house for a week and loved how they felt. I was so optimistic that I took them out on the road for a 40 minute run. 2 miles in, I started to feel the makings of a blister where my first mtp joint was. I continued with my run after adjusting my sock and shoe to make sure that wasn’t the problem and a short while later ended up walking home. The way the rubber rises up the form a lip was a problem....the toe box was great but if they would just design the shoe without the rubber lip (like new balance 1080v10) it would be awesome!
A bit snug on the big toe, but comfy for a slimmer foot.
Felt pretty good on my first 5 mile run, but I have "low-volume" feet so didn't feel as snug as some of the reviews have mentioned. My big toes did rub a bit, all the other toes had ample room. I purchased them because I wanted an extra comfy road runner for the times when I am "forced" to run on the road instead of trails, so I will be keeping them knowing they won't be my main running shoe.
Comfort and Support
I’m new to Topo Athletic, and very skeptical buying online, but when they came in, I loved them. The cushioning feels great. The width gives my forefoot plenty of room and great support to the forefoot and heel. I originally bought these for road running and for my next half marathon. I normally buy a 1/2 size bigger, which is a 9 for running, however I noticed my big toe almost hits the front tip of my shoe. I love them enough to buy another pair, but I’m sizing another 1/2 size bigger for running. I kept these for work as an OR nurse circulator. I love the cobalt with sea foam accent. Add more colors, please.
Great cushion, shoe is just not long enough
I wear a women's size 11 in every other running shoe, 5'10" tall and 165 lbs, running approx. 20 - 25 miles per week. This is my review after a 4-mile run.
PRO: Cushioning felt springy through the run - no heel or arch soreness afterward. I liked being able to feel the road as my foot rocked forward. Shoe is very lightweight & well ventilated, felt great on my high arches and high instep.
CON: The front half of the footbed is too short. My toes were up against the end of the shoe and the balls of my feet were positioned too far forward of the cushioning. The tongue of the shoe is too narrow - or the sides of the last aren't wide enough. There is barely enough shoelace to tie the shoes, & the last doesn't completely cover both edges of the tongue.
I recommend that if you buy these, size up at least half a size, probably a full size if you wear anything but super-thin socks.
A great new training shoe.

I am a TOPO Ambassador but the reason I am is because they are great shoes. The Phantom is another great addition to my training gear. It is a very cushioned shoe. I like that for longer training runs. It would not be my go to for racing but is a great training shoe. As usual it has the roomy toe box and natural fit. I have not had any issues with rubbing or blisters. I wore them on a fairly long run straight out of the box and had no problems with the way the fit.
Super cushiony and a great fit!
Really enjoying this shoe. The cushion on it super soft I don't feel the pavement or the rocks when I run on fire roads. The sizing is comparable. I also wear the Ultraventure trail shoes and the sizing on this is the same. I also really dig the colors. Excited to run more miles in these! I am a Topo Athletic Ambassador but this review is my own opinion.

I'd been running in the Ultrafly 2s and liked them as well but was excited that Topo was coming out with a more cushioned shoe and purchased my Phantoms as soon as they were available. I love them. They are so comfortable (a friend who is trying Topos for the first time and got the Phantoms says that she feels like she is walking on clouds) and have felt great on every run so far.
One more thing that I love about Topos in general is that I have never gotten a blister from any pair that I've had. I have always had to tape my heals for the first couple of weeks wearing a new pair of running shoes (regardless of brand) in order to prevent my heals from blistering. With my first pair of Tops I decided to try not taping and got no blisters. I have yet to get a blister with the various pairs that I've had over the years.
Exactly what I was looking for...
This shoes was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a shoe, with a roomy toe box, some cushion, and a lower heal toe drop. This shoe checked everything off the list!
