Product Overview

Runventure 2 is a lightly cushioned and responsive, 0-drop trail runner. It uses the same high performance rubber sole found on the Terraventure, combined with a slightly thinner EVA midsole. Runventure 2 uses a relaxed elastane heel for a more natural feel. Runventure 2 also features a uniquely designed gaiter attachment to help keep out dirt and debris. Gaiters are optional and may be purchased separately.

Overall outstanding shoe

I never write reviews for shoes since everyone is different but I had to do one for these. Absolutely love them, but not for running (yet I'm injured). These make great everyday shoes but even better gym shoes. Zero drop, super grippy and stable which is exactly what a quality gym shoe be.

Excellent fitting and performing shoe

This shoe exactly fits my needs. Zero drop, roomy toe box, and not overly roomy in the mid-foot. Most importantly to me, it achieves just the right firmness to the ground and feels very stable. I've been running in zero drop shoes for many years, and many comparable shoes are generally too "squishy" for me. This shoe has really hit the sweet spot - my knees and some problematic joints in my feet are very happy in these shoes.

Works for me in every way

Great mid-foot support, while plenty of room for toes to splay and feet to be in a relaxed and natural position. I only wear zero drop shoes, and I've been looking for an alternative to the brand I've worn for years, which has been missing the mark for me with recent models. This shoe has just the right amount of cushion and stack height for my tastes, and happens to fit the shape of my feet perfectly. It also breathes very well. I could not be more pleased with this shoe. Just great.

My "Goldilocks" Trail Runner

I converted from Altra to Topo. Not because I didn't like the former, but because the later produced a shoe - road or trail - that just worked for me. The RunVenture2 is my "Goldilocks" shoe. It's snug in the heel and mid-foot and roomy in the forefoot. And while it offers cushion and protection, ground feel is not sacrificed/compromised. There isn't enough traction underfoot for really muddy runs, but few trail shoes can give you everything that the RunVenture2 does and handle sloppy mud as well, so that's more of a bullet point than a complaint.

Honestly, if I had to ding the shoe (or all of Topo's shoes) on one category it would be the colorway! The shoes are awesome, why not put out some variations that are as awesome looking as they are awesome performing.

Perfect fit

I have wide feet and am always looking for comfortable shoes to pursue outdoor fun - these fit perfectly; roomy toe box and snug in the back. I use orthotics, and having 0 drop makes it so much better for me. I just got these so I can't comment on durability yet.

Uber comfortable... but not for serious/technical trails

Very light and comfortable. Perfect for flat or non-technical trails, or even roads, but top of the shoe too soft to offer proper protection against twisting, bending and banging against rocks/roots. Feet got tired when hiking the steeper portions of my route. Same outer sole as the Hydroventures, so same problems (IMO): lugs not long enough and too closely packed, can get slippery in barely wet soil. I suggest getting a half-size up for proper fit.

*Topo note: the outsole of the Runventure 2 is the same as that of the Terraventure.*

Update on durability

This is an update to a previous review. Unfortunately part of the outsole/tread started to come off on one of my shoes in two places. I have only used the shoes for lightweight duty so far. Topo was responsive when I reached out to them and are deciding what to do. Maybe just a one-off glitch but still.

Great fit, not so great durability

I bought my Runventure 2s this spring - love the fit. Altras never fit quite right and Topos have a wide enough toe box and still hold my heel. I’m in between a women’s 11 and 12 so the men’s 10 worked perfect. Love the zero drop and light weight. The traction was a little underwhelming on steep slopes, but decent overall. I was disapppointed in the durability- the material frayed on the sides after ~250 miles of trail running and hiking, I was hoping to get more out of them. Hopefully future generations will have more durable body material.

Awesome Trail Shoe

I love these shoes for rugged trails, steep hills, and everything in between. They are super lightweight with great tread and the same wide toe box Topo is known for. Very comfortable every time. I am a Topo Ambassador but my review is 100% honest. I believe in these shoes wholeheartedly.

the upper needs some work!

I loved these shoes! They were great right out of the box. They were on the roomier side, but I think sizing down a .5 size would've been too much.

Unfortunately these shoes didn't even make it 150 training miles before the uppers blew out. :(

Light, fast, and comfortable!

As a Topo Athletic ambassador, I get the opportunity to try all of their shoes. I would safely say that this one is the most fun I've had, not only in a Topo model, but in any running shoe. The fit is perfect; it has they locked down heel and mid-foot that Topo is known for and then has a wide, but not sloppy forefoot that lets your toes splay out and give you a great toe-off. The mid-sole is firm, but still gives me enough cushion to run up to the 25k distance. The outsole is a great all around design that works well in everything except the really nasty. The shoe also has gaiter attachments (which I haven't tried) and a soft, elastic heel that helps if you're dealing with achilles pain.
